Travel Turkey after Covid-19

Turkey
Istanbul International Airport, home to the world’s largest terminal, is gaining importance during the new normal, as international flight restrictions are lifted following the peak of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. It also offers Covid-19 test centers with almost 40.000 test capacity for travellers within its terminal

Due to the size of the mega-airport, passengers can carry out their boarding processes in an easier way, guaranteeing social distancing within each of the terminals.

The world’s aviation authorities and Turkey’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (SHGM) carry out strict audits to implement the standards that airports must adhere to during the pandemic.

According to the new regulations to guarantee a safe flight, at least one meter of social distance must be granted in each area of the terminals, paying special care to the operation at the security points, check-in, passport control points and food areas.

Istanbul Airport, one of the most efficient for travel during the new normal in COVID-19
Ensuring social distancing within airport terminals has been one of the main challenges for the commercial aviation industry during the coronavirus pandemic.

Istanbul Airport, which began operating at full capacity on April 7, 2019 after the large relocation of the old Ataturk Airport, operates with a main terminal under a single 1.4 million square meter roof.

Istanbul Airport has received more than 12.3 million passengers on domestic flights and more than 39.3 million from international flights, during the period from April to December last year, when it provided its service at full capacity.

During this period, Istanbul Airport received about 188 thousand passengers daily, even at that time the average number of people per square meter was determined as 0.13.

Arda Inceoglu, the dean of the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture of the MEF University of Turkey, said in statements to Anadolu Agency that due to the coronavirus pandemic, several improvements were made to the interior of the country’s airports.

Inceoglu pointed out that the rules of social distancing within the airport, the mandatory use of medical masks and the temperature controls of passengers are strictly followed, making the travel experience safer.

The professor pointed out that the airport faithfully follows the recommendations of the Turkish Ministry of Health and due to its large capacity, large concentrations of passengers are avoided, facilitating the technical process of boarding and giving people more peace of mind when boarding trips.

He also indicated that “the experience of passengers when flying will also directly affect the demand for air travel and the recovery of the industry; every step taken to guarantee social distance at airports will contribute to the global recovery of the aviation sector ”.

Turkey has so far registered more than 232 thousand cases of coronavirus, while 5,728 people have lost their lives due to the virus and more than 216 thousand have recovered.

COVID-19

Since it originated in China in December 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic has claimed more than 690 thousand lives in 213 countries and territories, according to figures from the Worldometer platform, considered one of the best reference websites to follow the pandemic statistics.

More than 18.1 million cases have been reported worldwide, while more than 11.4 million patients have recovered so far, according to figures compiled by the platform.

Despite the increasing number of cases, most infected people suffer only mild symptoms and recover.
