Pamukkale Ephesus Tour 2 Days

Although there are many touristic, cultural, historical and natural wonders to visit in Turkey, some of them should definitely be on your bucket list, especially if you are coming for the first time. Two of them are Pamukkale and Ephesus. In addition to their historical beauties, Pamukkale offers you a holiday opportunity with its healing thermal waters and natural wonder white terraces, which have been famous for thousands of years, and Ephesus offers you a holiday opportunity in the magnificent blue bays of the Aegean Sea, as well as its historical structure. If you wish, you can extend this package by spending more time in Kuşadası and its surroundings, or you can enrich it with Sagalassos and Salda Lake, another natural wonder of Turkey and a center of attraction for history enthusiasts.

Pamukkale, meaning “Cotton Castle” in Turkish, is famous for its natural thermal springs and terraces of carbonate minerals. Here is why Pamukkale is important:

Natural Wonder: Pamukkale’s terraces are formed by the flow of mineral-rich thermal waters cascading down the hillside, creating a visually stunning landscape of white travertine pools and terraces.

Ancient Hierapolis: Adjacent to Pamukkale is the ancient city of Hierapolis, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Founded in the 2nd century BC, Hierapolis features well-preserved ruins, including a theater, temples, necropolis, and Roman baths.

Healing Properties: The thermal waters of Pamukkale are believed to have healing properties due to their mineral content. Visitors can bathe in the thermal pools and experience the rejuvenating effects of the natural springs.

Cultural and Historical Context: Pamukkale and Hierapolis offer insights into ancient Roman and Greek civilizations, showcasing their architectural and engineering achievements in an impressive natural setting.

Ephesus, located near the modern town of Selçuk in western Turkey, was an ancient Greek city and later a major Roman city. Here is why Ephesus is important:

Historical Significance: Ephesus was one of the largest cities in the Roman Empire and an important center of trade, culture, and spirituality. It is known for its well-preserved ancient ruins, including the Library of Celsus, the Great Theater, and the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Biblical Connections: Ephesus is mentioned several times in the Bible, particularly in the New Testament, as the site of important events related to early Christianity, including visits by St. Paul and the Virgin Mary.

Archaeological Site: The archaeological site of Ephesus provides a glimpse into daily life in ancient times, with its marble streets, public buildings, private houses, and intricate mosaics.

Cultural Heritage: Ephesus is a UNESCO World Heritage site and attracts visitors from around the world who come to explore its historical and cultural significance and its architectural marvels.

Itinerary

Early morning pickup from your hotel in Istanbul and transfer to the airport. You can continue on your own for check-in and boarding procedures. Our team will meet you at the exit gate of Denizli (Pamukkale) airport. Upon your arrival, transfer to a local  our 2-3 star hotel where you will have breakfast after an early morning journey to recharge before we explore this natural historical phenomenon of Turkey. Get ready to experience yet another otherworldly natural wonder of Turkey, Pamukkale. When you first see it, you might say it looks like a mountain of fluffy white lime in the middle of a serene valley full of greenery. We will commence our exploration from Necropolis (meaning city of the dead in Greek), which has more than 1,200 graves at present. Though Hierapolis itself was not very large, most of the high social class people used to visit for the hot springs, spending their last days here and being buried here, which was a kind of fashion in those days. Here we will learn about four different types of graves. Continue to Hierapolis and visit this stunning ancient Hellenistic and Roman city with its remnants, which were renovated several times due to earthquakes. You will also have a chance to swim in the legendary pool of Cleopatra during your free time, at your own expense. Continue down the road and take off your shoes. It's time to walk barefoot on the healing white travertines that give the feeling of stepping on pumice stones. Our descent will end near the town of Pamukkale, and we will have our lunch in a restaurant. Continue to Kuşadası by driving for almost four hours. Arrive at our hotel and check in. Free time and overnight in Kuşadası (the port town of Ephesus). Meals: Breakfast and Lunch.

  • Sip your toes to healing waters of Pamukkale and Hierapolis
  • Take Phenomenal Photos in White Terraces
  • Swim in Cleopatra Antique Pool ( Additional cost applies )

After breakfast, pick up from the hotel and start the day trip to the ruins of Ephesus. Imagine a place that has so much to offer from ancient history. Ephesus allows thousands of years of architectural monuments that have been carefully preserved and maintained. Some restored relics still display historical power and majesty. The ancient Roman capital of Asia Minor, Ephesus can be called the Pompeii of Turkey. Many civilizations lived here and fell into oblivion until it was rediscovered by archaeologists in the late 1800s. Visit major highlights and ruins like the Temple of Hadrian and the Library of Celsus, which is considered the most important image that resembles a temple more than a library. The Theatre had a capacity of almost 24,000 people during its time. If you would like to have a general idea of the site and the size of the theatre, you can climb up the stairs and admire the landscape and the city’s magnitude from a bird’s eye view. Also visit the House of Mother Mary, where she is believed to have spent her last days after being brought here by St. John from Jerusalem. It is located on a hill near Ephesus and still holds an important role in the history of humanity. On the way back to our hotel, we will stop by the Basilica of St. John, which was built on his tomb. At the end of the day, we will transfer to Izmir airport for your flight to Istanbul. End of our services.
