Pergamon Kingdom Tour in Turkey – In the Footsteps of the Attalids Dynasty

Uncover the Lost Glory of an Ancient Powerhouse

Step into the world of Pergamon, a once-mighty kingdom that shaped the destiny of Asia Minor. Today’s Bergama is a treasure trove of forgotten wonders—where parchment was invented, where the world’s first psychiatric hospital thrived, and where gods and kings left their indelible mark. This isn’t just a tour—it’s a deep dive into history, crafted for those who crave more than the usual rushed visits. Walk where emperors ruled, healers worked miracles, and legends were born.

Day 1: Flight to Edremit – Arrival in Ayvalık & First Glimpse of Pergamon

Early in the morning, pick up from your hotel in Istanbul and transfer to airport. Your journey begins with a short flight from Istanbul, followed by a scenic drive to Ayvalık, a charming coastal town where time seems to slow. After soaking in its relaxed vibe, we head to Pergamon, your gateway to antiquity.

Tonight, we prepare for adventure—indulge in a traditional Turkish dinner, then unwind in a centuries-old hamam (bathhouse), letting the warmth and history seep into your bones. Tomorrow, the ruins await.

Meals: Dinner
Overnight: Pergamon

Day 2: Pergamon’s Acropolis, Asclepion & the Mystical Red Basilica

Morning: A cable car ride lifts you to the Acropolis, perched dramatically atop a mountain. Here, the wind whispers tales of kings and conquests as you stand where the Attalid dynasty once ruled.

  • Theatre of Pergamon – The steepest in the ancient world, this 10,000-seat marvel clings to the hillside, offering dizzying views of the valley below. Imagine the roar of the crowd during gladiator battles and Greek tragedies.
  • Altar of Zeus (remains) – Though most of its grandeur now resides in Berlin’s Pergamon Museum, the few remaining marble steps hint at its former glory—a masterpiece of Hellenistic art.
  • Temples of Athena, Dionysus & Trajan – Walk among the gods, where incense once curled skyward in devotion.

Afternoon: Descend to the Red Basilica, a colossal temple-turned-church-turned-mosque, its brick walls steeped in layers of faith. Marvel at sarcophagi of Muslims, Christians, and Jews—a testament to the city’s spiritual crossroads.

Final Stop: Asclepion – The world’s first psychiatric hospital, where the famed physician Galen treated patients with dream therapy, music, and sacred springs. Feel the weight of history in its silent corridors. We will also have the opportunity to see the tumulus structures, which are the King’s Tombs, from the outside.

Evening: We journey to Pamukkale, where another wonder awaits. Overnight in Pamukkale Thermal hotel with Hot Spring facilities that you can pamper yourself after a tiring day.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Overnight: Pamukkale

Day 3: Pamukkale & Hierapolis – A Surreal Paradise

Morning: Wake early to bathe in thermal waters as the sun rises over Pamukkale’s “Cotton Castle.” Then, explore Hierapolis, a city where nature and Roman engineering collide.

  • Travertine Terraces – Walk barefoot on gleaming white limestone, your feet kissed by warm, mineral-rich waters.
  • Cleopatra’s Pool – Swim among sunken Roman columns, relics of an earthquake that toppled Apollo’s Temple into the springs.
  • Necropolis & Plutonium – Wander through tombs of the forgotten and stand at the “Gate to Hell,” where ancient priests performed eerie rituals.

Evening: Depart for Antalya, where the Mediterranean breeze welcomes you.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Overnight: Antalya (Old City)

Day 4: Perge, Aspendos & Manavgat – Echoes of Rome

Morning: Explore Perge, a city of colonaded streets, agoras, and nymphaeums, where St. Paul once preached.

  • Aspendos Theatre – A 15,000-seat Roman marvel with perfect acoustics—stand on its stage and whisper; your voice will carry to the highest row.
  • Side’s Temple of Apollo – A sunset-washed ruin by the sea, where Antony and Cleopatra may have strolled.
  • Manavgat Waterfalls – A refreshing finale, where turquoise waters crash over rocks.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Overnight: Antalya

Day 5: Antalya – Free Day or Boat Adventure

Choose your finale:

  • Wander Antalya’s Old Town, where Ottoman houses lean over cobbled lanes.
  • Set sail on the Mediterranean, diving into hidden coves and swimming in crystal waters.

Evening: Fly back to Istanbul, your heart full of ancient wonders.
